Legal Statement Letter for Finnish Citizen

A legal statement letter is required for Finnish Citizen that wanting to get legally married in Indonesia.

To issue this letter, the document that needs to be brought from Finland is called
in Finnish: TODISTUS SUOMEN LAIN MUKAISESTA OIKEUDESTA MENNÄ AVIOLIITTOON ULKOMAAN VIRANOMAISEN EDESSÄ
in Swedish: INTYG OM RÄTT ATT ENLIGT FINSK LAG INGÅ ÄKTENSKAP INFÖR UTLÄNDSK MYNDIGHET
in English: CERTIFICATE OF CAPACITY UNDER FINNISH LAW TO CONTRACT MARRIAGE BEFORE A FOREIGN AUTHORITY

The Consulate receives the original document from the applicant or from the wedding organizer and sends it to the Finnish Embassy in Jakarta. Based on the above document the Embassy will issue a STATEMENT LETTER in English and Indonesian. The Embassy then sends the Statement letter to the Consulate in original. The Consulate checks the applicants’ passport/s, and hands out the Statement letter. The wedding organizer should bring a power of attorney.

The fee is IDR 500,000/person (February 2018). This fee + Postage fee IDR 60,000 (Dps-Jkt-Dps) should be paid at the Consulate. Please note that this fee may changed without prior notice. Clients must check the updated fee at Consulate.

Before the married couple can register their marriage in Finland, they need to legalize their marriage certificate in Jakarta at the Ministry of Justice (Kementerian Hukum dan HAM) and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kementerian Luar Negeri). When this has been done, the Embassy of Finland will legalize the marriage certificate and then forward a copy of the legalized marriage certificate and the form “Ilmoitus ulkomailla vihitystä Suomen kansalaisesta” (see below) to the authorities in Finland. The legalization procedure may be done by the wedding organizer or by an agent. A separate fee applies. The original documents will then be sent to the married couple (another postage fee will be charged) or picked up at the Embassy in Jakarta by the married couple/spouse, by the wedding organizer or by the agent.

“ILMOITUS ULKOMAILLA VIHITYSTÄ SUOMEN KANSALAISESTA” (in Swedish “ANMÄLAN OM UTOMLANDS VIGD FINSK MEDBORGARE”, in English “NOTIFICATION OF MARRIAGE OF A FINNISH CITIZEN ABROAD”), is available at the Consulate or online. If both parties are Finnish citizens they should both fill in a form.
